Simon N. Ekiko played an active role in the labor and democracy movements in Cameroon, serving as Secretary General of the Industrial, Clerical, Bank Workers Union (1970–73), and participating in various Trade Union, Leadership Development and Workers' Education seminars across Africa.

Mr. Ekiko currently resides in Baltimore, Maryland (USA) and is an Independent Consultant for the Baltimore City Department of Social Services, where he provides strategic consulting services to small and medium size businesses.

From 1992 to 1995, Mr. Ekiko served as the Contract and Procurement Officer and Executive Director for Simdor Establishments, a small business enterprise.

Previously, he was the Regional and Personnel Manager for Cameroon Airlines (1980-1992), and a staffer in Financial Management and Budgeting for Richard and William King, Ltd. (1969-70).

Mr. Ekiko received a Masters in Business Administration from Lady Spencer College, Oxford, United Kingdom in 1980th, and a B.Sc. in Economics, Joint Honors in Law and Industrial Relations, from the University of Wales, Cardiff, United Kingdom in 1978. He also received a Diploma in Industrial Relations and Trade Union Studies from the London School of Economics and Political Science, London, Great Britain (1975).

One of thirteen children born to John Tong Ekiko and Esther Njui Ekiko in Kumba, Cameroon, Mr. Ekiko resides in Baltimore with his wife, Dora Ebenye Ekiko, and their five children.
